The recent UK-India trade deal marked a historic moment for the British tech sector’s enormous potential to help solve some of mankind’s most pressing challenges.
As India marches towards securing its place among the world’s top three economies, the new UK-India Free Trade Agreement should raise annual bilateral trade by £25.5 billion and increase UK GDP by £4.8 billion.
But figures don’t tell the whole story.
India’s extraordinary trajectory owes a lot to its approach to technology, infrastructure, and inclusive growth. For companies like FIDO, at the forefront of ‘AI for good’, easier trade, lower tariffs, and deeper collaboration, can only be good.
A mission for water resilience
At FIDO Tech, we use AI to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our time: water scarcity. Our technology unlocks power from global water so that utilities and corporates can rapidly replenish water and help improve resilience for all. Turning data into impact.
According to the World Bank, India has 18 percent of the world’s population and only four percent of its water resources, making it one of the most water stressed in the world.
But it’s also a technology powerhouse that fully recognises the important of securing water to underpin economic growth, social cohesion, and mobility.
I’ve written about this before. What sets India apart is its collaborative, tech-forward approach to water services. The adoption of digital tools to map assets, monitor real-time performance, provide advanced data analytics, and even educate and engage citizens is accelerating.
From Hubbali-Dharwad, where households once received water for just a few hours a day, to Shimla, where residents had water once every three days, Indian cities are on an inspiring journey toward 24/7 supply. In Karnataka, a new metered distribution system is being built to serve 10 million people across 31 districts. It’s a transformation.
Partnering India’s digital water revolution
FIDO AI fits seamlessly into this ecosystem. Our technology provides actionable insights that help businesses and utilities deploy resources efficiently, monitor consumption, and plan investments based on evidence-led analysis.
All around us, British technology like FIDO AI is revolutionising business, public services, climate resilience, and global development. From brief conversations I’ve had with Prime Minister Starmer, it’s clear he sees its ongoing transformative potential.
Positioning the UK as a key partner for India now is a master stroke. Its tech sector is expected to be worth around £1 trillion by 2030 putting it on track to become a global technology behemoth. This agreement will help accelerate our mission of making advanced AI accessible to as many people and businesses as possible.
Securing a better climactic future
Societies like India that recognise and act on water scarcity will be the big winners in our new climatic future. The World Bank estimates suggest that water-stressed countries who adopt efficient policies now could achieve growth rates of up to 6% by 2050.
I’m really proud that, through pioneering partnerships with forward-thinking corporations like Gap Inc., FIDO is already working in India. Together, we are helping improve water resilience in Bengaluru to support sustainable water use in the apparel supply chain.
The reasons it works is because we make advanced AI accessible to as many people as possible and use our powerful validated volumetrics to help unlock corporate support for collective action on public water resilience.
It’s a privilege to stand alongside Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and some of the UK’s most innovative companies as we explore new opportunities in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
FIDO Tech is proud to be helping shape a future where AI and water resilience go hand in hand.
