Northumbrian Water (NWL) used FIDO AI network monitoring to detect leaks faster during the winter water leak breakout season.

In this short webinar from the Water Action Platform, NWL’s Technical Policy Manager Andrew Blenkharn discusses the project in detail with host Dr Piers Clark of Isle Utilities.

The NWL project was delivered using a data-as-a-service (DaaS) model and our Network Monitor product, which pairs AI acoustic sensors with IoT to automate data upload and leak detection. Under the DaaS model, FIDO experts do all the network assessment, carry out all the hardware deployment and manage the data, sending accurate points of interest (PoIs) to leak teams to investigate.

Over the 2025 to 2026 winter water leak breakout season, the service highlighted 130 PoIs and led to a leakage reduction of 6.4 megalitres a day.
